The idea for Topped Toys began with a frustration familiar to many Canadian toy enthusiasts: finding products they wanted, only to discover that companies wouldn’t ship to Canada, charged unfavorable exchange rates, or added prohibitively high shipping costs. Rather than keep dealing with those limitations, the founders decided to explore making toys of their own.

Fortunately, the team already had the right mix of experience to make it happen. One founder brought expertise in marketing, another had experience managing startups, and the third was a chemical engineer with a background in manufacturing. Together, they had the skills needed to turn an idea into a real product line.

They started by digging through their own extensive toy collections—pulling boxes from under beds, storage units, and the tops of closets. They examined everything from old toys that hadn’t aged well to plugs they had outgrown and unusual shapes that looked better in theory than in practice. From that process, they created a clear list of what they loved about existing toys and what they believed could be improved. Topped Toys grew from that hands-on experience and a simple goal: to make better toys for people who love using them.
